Tacos and Tea

It seems like our culture, now more than ever, gravitates more towards the healthy lifestyle. Grocery stores are now offering so many healthy options and with all the health blogs and with the help of Pinterest you are able to come up with a healthy meal alternative for your family every day of the week. But who doesn’t crave comfort food! I know I do. My friends and family know me as the “health nut” but they also know I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty once in a while! Last week my brother-in-law was putting together some tacos but they were not your ordinary tacos, these tacos are called “discadas” as they are made with 4-5 different meats and potatoes all wrapped in a warm greasy tortilla.

These things are horrible for you but oh so yummy! Because I don’t eat like this everyday I decided to eat 3 of these tacos. If you are used to eating healthy you know this can mess with your stomach so I want to give you some tips on things that I do before and after a “bad but yummy meal!”

DRINK LOTS OF WATER

Staying hydrated will keep your metabolism going and flush out any toxins from the junk food binge. It can also fight against any bloating.

DRINK A CUP OF TEA

My go to teas when I eat a “bad meal” are green or mint tea whichever is accessible to me. Green tea may help with blood sugar levels and can also help detox witch is nesassary after eating a “bad meal” if you have up 2-3 cups of green tea a day it can help you burn fat. My new favorite green tea is the Costco brand it doesn’t have that bitter caffeine taste and this brand has matcha and sencha added to it, super yummy. Mint tea can help eliminate any bloat that you’re feeling after a heavy meal and can also flush out any toxins. A cup of mint tea can also aid a stomach ache after a “bad meal.” If you are not a tea person just gulp down a warm cup of lemon water like my husband does (fresh lemons).

SMOOTHIE FOR BREAKFAST

Drinking a detox smoothie the next morning we’ll help you get back on track to your usual healthy lifestyle; it can help settle your stomach. An example of a good smoothie to detox is the anti-bloat smoothie found on happyhealthymama.com. Its simply: 1 banana which has potassium that lowers sodium (perfect for all that meat I ate), 1 cucumber that will help you stay hydrated, apple cider vinegar reduces gas and bloating and many other benefits, ginger, ginger will help relax the muscles of the digestive track, and coconut water (more potassium). Put all ingredients in a blender and voila a healthy anti-bloat smoothie!

BE EASY ON YOURSELF

Sometimes we are too hard on ourselves, specially if we are not used to a healthy lifestyle. I found out that doing my research and figuring out why certain foods are not good for me, led me to this healthy lifestyle. Sometimes we just need to know “why why why” in order to make that change. Health doesn’t come easy to all but we all want to live long so I encourage you to do your own research and choose healthier options. But don’t be hard on yourself when you are craving that pizza or In-N-Out burger or ice cream. YOLO!
